Endless hem

Unsurprisingly I am working flat out on things for the fashion show. Things are at last coming together. Today I've been working on finishing a skirt. I hadn't realised how many new ways of doing things I would need. Quilts are very different to dress making fabrics. Still it's together now and I think it fits pretty well. However the hem is massive. I feel like I've been pinning for hours but I'm less than half way around. I bet sewing is going to take forever as well. Guess I've had my break and I should get back to it.

Just think of that endless hem as a binding on a quilt, the final push to the finish :) I'm sure it will go much quicker!

I got it done in a couple of hours. I did realise it is the size of a binding so it was going to take a while. I'm part way through the second similar size hem.

I'm trying to work out how to avoid it on the last piece that will have a hem that big. So far I've not answers and actually the more I've thought about it the more I think I need to hand finish that one ;(

How's your blind hemming stitch on your machine? It could be an option, just a thought!

Pretty good, but I don't think it will work for that project sadly. I've got to look at a few garments to see how they have tackled this situation. I think the size will change the solution though and that is where I will come unstuck.

I might be able to do some crafty topstitching and use one of the industrial techniques but I'm not sure it will hang right if I do. It's not the sort of thing I will be able to undo if it goes wrong which makes me nervous about trying it. Especially as it is on the garment I am planning to wear most after the show.
